After the tremendous success of their concert 3 years ago, we are delighted to invite back the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, one of France’s premier orchestras.
The orchestra’s Chief Conductor, Aziz Shokhakimov, will open the programme with Saint-Saens’ dramatic Danse Macabre with its pulsating rhythms. The evening’s soloist, the brilliant American violinist Maria Ioudenitch, will then perform one of the greatest of all 20th century violin concertos, Prokofiev’s ethereal Violin Concerto No. 1.
The second half of the concert will be devoted to Sergei Rachmaninov’s symphonic masterpiece, his Symphony No. 2, beloved by all Rachmaninov admirers for the harmonic beauty of his orchestration and the deep lyricism and melodic richness of this work. This is indeed a musical treat not to be missed.
